My Holiday Beauty & Skincare Essentials

I have just returned from the Cote D’Azure & had a lovely break taking in the stunning scenery, eating croissants every morning & drinking Chablis like water. Holiday blues have kicked in & I can’t wait to go away again with my beau, all it takes is one holiday is to kick start the summer travel bug…

The last few weeks have been spent prepping & preening to ensure I’m prepared for some sunshine & I look my best in a bikini! (Oh the pressures!) I thought I would share with you my go-to beauty & skincare products that help prepare me for my holiday & for summertime in general.

(Please note all product info & prices will be listed at the bottom of this post in a product breakdown for you guys!)

So first things first & the most obvious preparation is your skin. There is nothing worse, for me personally, than putting on a bikini & feeling vulnerably pale! If you have skin like mine that tans easily & isn’t particularly sensitive then you will agree that you look better with a glow. Everything is better with a tan. Lets be honest. With that being said, a base tan for my skin type is necessary!

The last few weeks I have prepared my skin by exfoliating & moisturising aswel as slowly building up a gradual tan using L’oreal’s Sublime Bronze Night Elixir, before having a few sunbed sessions the few days before leaving.

To exfoliate I use Soap & Glory’s Sugar Crush Body Scrub.19692130_10156978092133973_1021755306_n

I use this with exfoliating mitts & a body brush – both available at Boots. This exfoliator really is the bomb!

The formula is really gritty, with large & small exfoliating particles for a really firm scrub!

The fragrance is made up of lime & vanilla with hints of almond & it smells beautiful – a bonus. I love this product!

I do tend to go to town when exfoliating & scrub quite firmly, really buffing the skin of any old tan or dry patches. Once I am completely exfoliated I use the Dove Nourishing Care in Shower Argan Oil which is really moisturising & nourishing – exactly what you need to soothe after an exfoliation. Although this product initially looks like an oil it does create a thick, moisturising foam when rubbed into the skin. I love Dove’s bath & shower products & always find them super soothing on the skin & they always smell so calming.

Towards the end of the week leading up to my holiday I’ll use a sunbed a few times just to get a base tan & prep my skin for the sun. I appreciate this is not everyone’s cup of tea but it is something I don’t do often & due to my skin being naturally tanned, I can use them quite safely without worrying about skin sensitivity. With that being said I am careful & go to a respectable salon where they are knowledgeable & care about your safety & skin well being.

Moisturising is a BIG part of maintaining a good colour. I moisturise more leading up to holidays as being exposed to the sun can be dehydrating for your skin which can cause all sorts of problems from ageing to excess oil & breakouts. (Yes believe it or not – if you are struggling with a shiny T-zone or oily skin it is actually a sign that your skin is dehydrated!)

I don’t moisturise my body with any particular moisturiser but usually grab whichever product I have laying around. 18902237_10156848301893973_867722247_nFor example, one that I have been using recently is the Loewe Aura Body Lotion which came in my recent Cohorted Beauty Box. It smells amazing & absorbs quickly which is great when I’m rushing around. My other favourite moisturisers include the Clarins Body Lotion & the Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Miracle Mist which was featured in my May Favourites last month.

All these steps really help maintain my tan & keep my skin looking fresh & moisturised in the sun & heat.

Those of you that follow me on Instagram will know that I have been indulging in some pretty funky facemasks recently, some that have featured in my last Favourites post.

I have been loving masks by Oh! K & have been including them in my pamper routine in the lead up to my holiday.

My favourite masks have to include the Cucumber Sheet Mask which I leave on for up to 20 minutes before simply taking off & rubbing in any excess product. I love these types of sheet masks because there’s no mess, no faff & yet you get maximum results, you just simply peal them off, rub in any excess & your good to go!

A brand that I also have been using recently is Nuxe. I loved their Travel Essential Mini’s from Space NK & used their moisturiser, cleanser & this amazing body wash which has a stunning fragrance & shimmer. Perfect for those summer nights!

I also love the Cherry Lip Mask which brings me onto my next topic. image2 (8)My pout! Obviously you will know that I recently had my first Lip Augmentation so I have been taking care of my lips more than usual with aftercare & some fantastic products.

I love a good lip scrub – so, SO underrated – trust me when I say the moment you invest in a decent Lip exfoliate you will never forget to scrub your pout again. It leaves you with the softest most plumpest, perfect lips!

I love Charlotte Tilbury’s Lip Renewing Honey Bee Scrub for an everyday ‘seeing to’ but tend to use the Bubblegum Lip Scrub by Lush for a real harsh scrub once a week. This product smells & tastes amazing. Lush have some fabulous flavours & this has to be one of my favourite beauty products of all time. I use the famous & celebrated holy grail that is Elizabeth Arden’s Eight Hour Cream on my lips to ensure they remain moisturised in the sun. Another one of my go-to products.

Sun Protection

Once I am in the sun I ALWAYS wear sun protection. I definitely have become more careful as I have got older & I am always aware of staying protected whilst in the sun. I wear SPF 50 on my face to prevent signs of ageing & am really conscious of keeping my face & neck protected as much as possible. Those of you that read my Dermalogica Facial Review will know that I learnt the importance of taking care of your eye area as that is the first area that shows signs of ageing & it very hard to undo once lines start to appear. For this reason by go to protection was the Elizabeth Arden SPF 50.

For my body I used the Piz Buin Moisturising Cream in SPF 30. Once my tan had started to really develop, I then moved on to SPF 15 Tanning Intensifying Oil. I actually learnt recently when watching Chloe Morello’s channel that there is only a 3% difference in UV protection between SPF 30 & SPF 15! That was quite shocking! So I didn’t feel too guilty applying factor 15 after learning that little fact!

I love a good After Sun moisturiser & I purchase the Hawaiian Tropic Ultra Radiance After Sun Lotion.

This product smells AMAZING! Like a tropical pina colada cocktail. It also has a slight shimmer to it which is beautiful.

I was really happy with this. It is fast absorbing, non greasy & nourishing. Perfect for those days where you catch the sun more than you perhaps expected!

Mani & Pedi

Now I move on to my nails. Before going away I had a gel pedicure to ensure my polish was long lasting & beautiful ready for those bare foot days. My therapist applied OPI Gel Colour in shade ‘Big Apple’ – a lovely, bright red which looks fantastic with a tan. I love wearing reds, corals & oranges when on holiday. These shades always look fantastic when you have a sunkissed glow. ‘Big Apple’ is such a classy red, I was super happy with my choice. (Isn’t it the hardest decision ever to choose a polish colour when you go into a salon – it always sends me into a frenzy!) Again, I try to keep my hands & nails moisturised in the lead upto my vacay. I use Clarins Body Oil on my cuticles & Crabtree & Evelyn ‘La Source’ Handcream which smells wonderful & fresh.

Holiday Make Up Looks

Now make up. This is quite a tough one. Wearing make up in the heat can be a disaster. You can end up looking like an oil slick & feeling uncomfortable to match. No one likes their make up to melt off their face in 30 degree heat! I always find that break outs are inevitable when wearing a full face of make up in the heat. Pores get clogged up & that fresh faced, sun kissed look you were aiming for kind of doesn’t happen. Meh.

I was adamant that I would give my face a rest this holiday & try to go make up free or minimal as much as possible, relying on a decent BB Cream & some bronzing powder if necessary. Whilst doing my huge pre-holiday Boots haul I came across a BB Water by Smashbox Cosmetics & I literally fell in love. I have never found such an amazing, light yet effective BB formula.19576219_10156967874523973_2091725595_n

This product offers a really moisturising, light yet build-able coverage that doesn’t cake & looks completely natural. It really does aid with the no-make up, au naturelle look I was going for. I went for shade Medium Dark – darker than my normal skin tone as I knew my tan would be getting darker. It is a gorgeous shade & literally just melts into my skin. I used this if we went out during the day & of an evening just to add a little bit of coverage & even out my skin tone where I had caught the sun on my nose & had had my sunglasses on & fallen asleep! DOH! It worked perfectly & I can’t recommend it enough. I’m still wearing it post holiday & I LOVE IT!

I then combined Kevin Aucoin’s Sculpting Powder in shade Medium to add contour & Charlotte Tilbury’s Bar of Gold for highlight. I contour my face, eyes & nose & add highlight above my cheekbones & inner eyes & under brows if I want an extra glam look. This overall look is really natural & light with a light coverage – the perfect holiday look on top of your tan. Skin can breathe & there is not build up of product in the heat or cakiness which is super comfortable & very flattering.  I apply a thin layer of Nars Blush in shade ‘Orgasm’ for a little colour in my cheeks.

Other than Kevin Aucoin’s Sculpting Powder, I leave my eyes bare & just add L’oreal’s Telescopic Mascara. I apply one coat to seperate lashes & then when that coat is dry I apply a second to add length & volume by applying to the inside of my lashes. This hack is fab for a natural yet volumised, lengthened look.

For my lips I outline them with a Mouthy by Megan Mckenna Lip Liner in shade Sand & contour using the same pencil by colouring in the outer corners & centre of my cupids bow – another great tip for a natural make up look yet adding a subtle plump! 18275182_604377546435803_5417399136145356705_n

I then apply Elizabeth Arden’s Eight Hour Cream for a light glossed finish. If I am after a more statement lip look, I love to apply a stunning red like MAC’s ‘Ruby Woo’, seen below. Again the colour looks fantastic with a tan! You can’t beat a red lip!

Those of you that read my May Favourites post will know that I recently purchased the By Terry Tea to Tan Bronzing Oil…which I love!

I now have both the classic & the summer edition for extra shimmer. Both are gorgeous products where you are able to control how much shimmer you wish to include. Perfect for transitioning between day & evening looks. As much as I love this product, I did indeed end up getting my hands on the Nars Monoi Body Oil – a product I have been desperate for for a while!

I love both of these body bronzing oils & applied both of these of an evening when going out for dinner & drinks.

The By Terry product is much more of a deep, warmer bronze whilst the Nars Monoi Oil is more of a tanned shade. Both are very flattering & the pigments do seem to adjust to suit all skin tones which is great.

One thing I would say is that the Nars oil is more ‘oily’ than the By Terry oil. It leaves a dewy finish which is great if you want that kind of look. I prefer using this on my upper body & the Tea to Tan on my legs.

Again, looking after your hair & maintaining moisture whilst in the sun is super important. In the lead up to my holiday I try not to wash my hair too frequently – utilising dry shampoo & washing every 3-4 days ensuring my natural oils don’t diplinish, drying out my locks. Many of you will know that I love brand Oribe. Oribe have been featured in many of my posts & I adore their products. They are a luxury brand – which their prices reflect so as much as I wish I could, I don’t use their products as often as I would like. There is one product I do use everyday which is their Split End Seal – a real holy grail product featured in my recent Favourites post.

For shampoo & conditioner I use whichever brands I come across in Boots when I’m doing a shop. I love Bumble & Bumble & use their Invisible Oil Shampoo & Conditioner. This collection is infused with 6 ‘feather light’ oils to help soften, silken, tame, de-frizz, de-tangle & protect. It is perfect for dry, brittle hair & is free from any nasty sulphates.

The other brand I love – (& one that Charlie steals all the time!) is Aussie. I use their Miracle Moist Shampoo & Conditioner along with their 3 Minute Miracle Mask which I leave in for up to 15 minutes. It leaves my hair looking so healthy! I love it. I have been using Aussie since I was a teenager & will always recommend it as a drug store alternative to more expensive brands such as Oribe & Bumble & Bumble.

During my holiday for days out or by the pool I used Bumble & Bumble’s Surf Collection. I bought their Travel Sized set & used their Surf Spray to maintain some style to my locks whilst being in & out the water. It’s a fab product & it was featured thoroughly in my May Favourites.P6150005

After washing my hair, I used the Gold Lust Oil by Oribe combined with their Split End Seal – two of my favourite products by Oribe.P6150004

They help de-frizz & keep my hair moisturised. I apply the oil from the mid part to the ends of my hair for a sleek controlled look. The seal I use on my ends to help conceal any damage. A new Oribe product I purchased from Space NK is the travel size Impermeable Anti-humidity Spray. This was great for keeping heat induced frizz at bay after styling! It works like a finishing spray & shields hair from frizz leaving you looking sleek & polished regardless of the humidity in the air. A must have if you struggle with frizz or have curls that need definition in humid weather.

Summer Fragrances

I love my perfume to be light, fresh & fruity in the daytime & then go for something sexier & heavier in the evening. I don’t like anything too heavy or musky & I love fragrance combining. Those of you that are Jo Malone fans will know what I am talking about! Jo Malone created the ability to combine two perfumes together to create a customised scent. I will be doing a thorough post on this within the next few weeks so stay tuned!

My Holiday Scents this summer are a few of my all time favourites including Jo Malone’s Orange Blossom & White Jasmine & Mint for the day time & Pomegranite Noir & Chanel’s Coco Mademoiselle for the evening.

For lounging around the pool or days at the beach I spray a body mist. 19578110_10156967874833973_535686617_nOne of my favourites is Love Spell by Victoria’s Secret.

It’s fruity & fresh & really unique.

It’s a beautiful fragrance that lasts all day which is fantastic considering it is just a body spray.

VS do a huge range of these sprays in lots of different fragrances & they are all really distinctive & beautiful.

They are also available in travel sizes – perfect for putting in your handbad or cosmetics bag when travelling.

Travel Tools & Essentials

I must admit – when I pack my beauty bag when travelling, I find it so hard to condense it down!19621815_10156978091653973_1115411193_n

One thing I did differently this holiday was actually invest in travel sized empties to put my favourite products into. I found a Beauty Junky Travel Bottle Kit from Boots & it was fantastic.

The empty containers are the perfect size for a weeks holiday & I love that they have included little screw lid pots too. These are really useful for putting any powder products in. I filled one with my Laura Mercier setting powder & another with my HD Powder by NYX. The taller containers I used for Body Wash & Shower Gel. These all helped condense my beauty bag greatly plus they come in a cute travel pouch!

I purchased this mini speaker by Kakkoii from Very Exclusive & it was perfect for pool days.8d8c54167f8ffbdfde287e1409aa0415

I loved playing summer hits whilst sunbathing & it has a really crisp & loud sound ability. They also come in different colours & have rose gold hardwear with a rubber overlay which is perfect for keeping it safe during summer days. Although the speaker isn’t water proof, the rubber will ensure it stays secure & dry if splashed. A fab holiday buy this summer!

As a blogger, I am always on my phone, taking pictures especially, so staying charged is super important. Charlie purchased a travel battery charger at Gatwick Airport & it is fantastic for charging your phone on the go. All you need is your USB charging cable & your good to go! It is the perfect size for your handbag & ensures you stay charged all day/night. A travel MUST have for sure…

My trip to the Cote D’Azure was BEAUTIFUL.

We stayed in Tourettes Sur Loup about 20 minutes outside of Nice & visited stunning Eze, situated high up in the clouds with views for days…

We explored the Jardin Botanique which was simply stunning & offered the most amazing views of the coast.

We then stopped & had gorgeous cocktails at the luxurious Chateau Eza, a 400 year old Chateau over looking the Mediterranean Sea.19691447_10156977980458973_1670907188_n

The cocktails & service here were fabulous.

It is also a restaurant & hotel of 5 star luxury. The location is ideal. Close to Monaco, yet hidden away & surrounded by such beautiful scenery.

It was lovely to enjoy an hour of utter luxury together…just me & Charlie…

The Cote D’Azure is one of the most beautiful places I have ever travelled. It really is lovely. 19366608_625992180941006_7418687951719011761_nI love the area & have been holidaying there since a little girl, it almost feels like home.

The scenery, the food, the atmosphere is all stunning & I’d highly recommend it to add to your travel bucket list. Monaco, St Tropez, Monte Carlo, St Paul De Vence & Eze are beautiful! It has everything from history to luxurious shopping, great food & beautiful beaches. I can’t wait to go back…
